All-Terrain Treads & 400-Watt Motor Performance

The defining feature of our Tank 400 is its authentic tread system. Unlike traditional ride-on wheels, these molded tank treads distribute weight evenly and grip uneven surfaces with confidence. We engineered them from durable rubber composite that resists tearing while flexing over obstacles like roots, rocks, and curbs.

Power You Can Feel

The 400-watt motor configuration pairs two independent motors—one per tread—for exceptional control and torque. This dual-motor setup lets the Tank 400 pivot in place, climb moderate hills, and power through soft terrain where single-motor vehicles bog down. Parents appreciate the variable speed settings: a beginner mode caps speed at 3 mph, while advanced riders unlock the full 6 mph top speed.

Two-Seater Cockpit & Safety Features
Sizing & fit

Two-Seater Cockpit & Safety Features

We built the Tank 400 cockpit to accommodate two riders ages 4-10, with a maximum combined weight of 130 pounds. The driver sits forward with access to the foot pedal accelerator and steering controls, while the passenger enjoys a secure rear seat with grab handles.

Integrated Safety System

Safety drives every design decision. The welded steel roll cage protects riders during tip-overs (rare but possible on steep slopes), while adjustable safety harnesses keep both driver and passenger firmly seated during sharp turns and sudden stops. The wide tread stance—28 inches apart—provides stability that prevents rollovers during normal operation.

Assembly, Maintenance & Battery Care

Your Tank 400 arrives partially assembled. Most families complete setup in 45-60 minutes using common Phillips and flathead screwdrivers (not included). We provide illustrated instructions covering tread installation, battery connection, roll cage attachment, and seat mounting.

Keeping Your Tank Mission-Ready

Routine maintenance is minimal but important. After every 5-10 hours of use, inspect tread tension and adjust using the integrated tensioners—loose treads reduce traction and accelerate wear. Wipe down the body with mild soap and water; avoid pressure washers that can damage electrical components. Lubricate steering linkages quarterly with white lithium grease.

Best investment for outdoor play
We bought the Tank 400 for our twin boys’ fifth birthday and it’s been going strong for eight months. The treads handle our bumpy yard way better than their old ride-on, and they love taking turns driving and riding passenger. Battery life is solid—they get a full hour even going up and down our sloped driveway constantly.

Tougher than expected
I was worried about durability, but this thing takes a beating. My kids have driven it through mud, over tree roots, and even gently bumped it into the fence a few times with zero damage. The roll cage gives me peace of mind, and the safety harnesses actually keep them seated unlike some ride-ons we’ve tried.

Assembly was straightforward
Put this together in about 50 minutes by myself. Instructions were clear and everything fit together properly. The treads were the trickiest part but the tension adjusters made it manageable. My daughter was driving it the same afternoon and hasn’t stopped asking to ride since.

Worth every penny for adventurous kids
Our six-year-old and four-year-old share this and it’s the highlight of their day. The 400-watt motors have plenty of power—they climb the hill in our backyard that their other ride-on couldn’t handle. The two-seater design means fewer fights over whose turn it is, which is a huge win for us.

Great traction, wish battery charged faster
The tank treads are seriously impressive on grass and gravel. My son drives this thing like he’s on a real mission. Only complaint is the 14-18 hour charge time—I wish we could charge overnight and have it ready by morning. We ended up buying a second battery so he can ride daily.

Neighborhood favorite
Every kid on our block wants a turn on this tank. The sound effects and working headlights make it feel special, and the treads look so cool in motion. It’s been three months and our kids still choose this over video games, which says everything. Build quality feels like it’ll last for years.

Power Wheels Tank 400 Buyer Questions

The Tank 400 is recommended for children ages 4-10 years with a maximum combined weight capacity of 130 pounds (65 pounds per seat). Each rider should be able to sit upright with feet reaching the floor or footrests and have the coordination to understand accelerator and steering controls.

We always recommend adult supervision regardless of age. Younger children (ages 4-5) should start in beginner speed mode and ride only on flat, open terrain until they demonstrate consistent control.

The included 12-volt rechargeable battery provides 60-90 minutes of continuous runtime depending on rider weight, terrain difficulty, and speed setting. Flat surfaces and lighter riders maximize runtime, while hills and maximum speed drain the battery faster.

Recharging takes 14-18 hours using the included automatic charger. We recommend plugging in immediately after each use and charging overnight. Never charge longer than 30 hours or use non-Power Wheels chargers, as this can damage the battery and void your warranty.

Yes, the 400 is designed for all-terrain use including damp grass, light mud, gravel, dirt, and slopes up to 15 degrees. The tank treads provide excellent traction on soft or uneven surfaces where wheeled ride-ons struggle.

Avoid standing water deeper than 2 inches and never submerge any part of the vehicle, as water can damage electrical components. After muddy rides, hose off the treads and undercarriage with low-pressure water and let the Tank 400 dry completely before storing.

Most parents complete assembly in 45-60 minutes. You’ll need a Phillips screwdriver and a flathead screwdriver (not included). The process involves attaching the roll cage to the body, installing both tank treads, connecting the battery, and mounting the seats and harnesses.

Our illustrated manual walks through each step with diagrams. The tread installation requires adjusting tension using the built-in tensioners—this is the most time-consuming step but essential for proper performance. No cutting, drilling, or specialized tools required.

Beginner mode limits top speed to 3 mph, which is ideal for first-time drivers, younger children (ages 4-5), or learning basic steering and braking in confined spaces. The gradual acceleration helps prevent loss of control.

Advanced mode unlocks the full 6 mph capability and provides quicker acceleration response. We recommend transitioning to advanced mode only after your child demonstrates consistent control in beginner mode, including smooth stops, controlled turns, and awareness of obstacles. Parents can switch between modes using the gear selector located near the driver’s seat.

Every Tank 400 includes a one-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship when used according to instructions. The warranty does not cover normal wear items (treads, batteries), damage from crashes or misuse, modifications, or operation beyond weight and age limits.

We offer replacement parts including batteries, treads, chargers, harnesses, and body panels through our online parts store and authorized retailers. Most common parts ship within 2-3 business days. Register your Tank 400 within 30 days of purchase to activate warranty coverage and receive safety recall notifications.

The Tank 400 is engineered and safety-tested exclusively for children ages 4-10 with a maximum combined weight of 130 pounds. The frame, motors, and treads are not designed to support adult weight, and doing so will damage components and void the warranty.

Adults should supervise from outside the vehicle and use the key lockout system to control when the Tank 400 operates. For testing after assembly, we recommend placing weight (sandbags, etc.) in the seats rather than riding yourself.
